Alf is a German city at the district Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate. The town sign of the city was very often stolen during the late 1980s, because of the success of the German broadcast of ALF. As a result of the thefts, the city eventually began selling copies of the sign with the municipal stamp and the mayor's signature on the back.
