Torn Between Two Lovers

When Danny returns early from the family reunion, he tries to break off Lynn's friendly date with Randy.

Torn Between Two Lovers is the twentieth episode of ALF's third season. It originally aired on March 6, 1989.

Plot Summary[]

When Danny Duckworth has to break his date to the dance with Lynn for a family reunion, Lynn agrees to go to the dance with Randy Boylan. She intended to go as friends, causing a misunderstanding with both Randy and Danny.

At the end, Lynn tells Danny that she is going to go with Randy so that she won't go back on her word. They then decide that they are going to start going steady.

ALF is sitting at the kitchen table fixated with the names of various cleaning products and wants to help out while Kate is out at a real estate seminar,

The doorbell rings and Lynn goes to answer it,

Act One[]

Lynn answers the door and it's her boyfriend Danny, and he's come to reveal he can't take her to the dance the next day because he's being dragged to a family reunion. They kiss and he says he'll call when he gets back. Lynn comes back into the kitchen to tell Willie that Danny broke their date. Willie asks if there is someone else she can go with but she feels it's not right because they're "kind of" going steady. Lynn says there's not a census on it after being prompted by Willie. Lynn goes to her room. The next day, Lynn is tutoring Randy with vocabulary. Lynn is a bit inattentive due to her being upset about Danny canceling on her. Willie comes into to ask Randy about the tutoring and to tell Lynn that her friend Julie called about the dance. He then heads out. Danny heads out and mentions that he guesses he won't be seeing her at the dance... Lynn mentions she's seeing Danny but then decides that she could take Randy instead. She then goes into the kitchen and sees ALF surprised about how silver polish works. Lynn heads out to take a shower. The phone rings and ALF answers. It's Danny and he tells him not to bother rushing back because Lynn has another date for the dance, and is hung up on.


Brian and ALF are playing an Atari game and Lynn walks in looking for her purse and to hide in the kitchen because Randy will be there soon. When Lynn mentions she hopes that Danny won't be mad, ALF remembers that Danny called and that ALF told him that Lynn got another date. Lynn is upset and worried that Danny will think she dumped him. The doorbell rings and its Danny dressed up for the dance. He asks to come in.

Act Two[]

Danny asks who she's going with and is skeptical when she says it's Randy. Danny says that he went to a lot of trouble convincing his father to let him leave early. Lynn says that Randy is just a friend and that she cares about Danny. Danny suggests when Randy arrives that she stand him up. When Danny arrives He and Danny start arguing. Meanwhile ALF and Brian are in the kitchen spying on them and eating popcorn. The fight is about to get physical, and Lynn goes into the kitchen to talk to ALF and Brian for advice. ALF then suggests that since she made the error of breaking the date so she get herself out of the jam. So Lynn tells Danny and Randy if they want to fight they only get one punch each and tell Randy to go first and to hit her. Lynn then tells Randy that she still wants to go with him and asks Danny to speak with him privately. Danny says about how they've only been dating, and that they should talk about getting serious.. They agree to do so the starting the next day... after the dance. They kiss and Danny heads out

Lynn goes into the house to collect Danny and they head out. Brian and ALF leave the kitchen with their popcorn to go watch Geraldo on Morton Downey

Epilogue[]

Kate arrives home to find ALF mopping the kitchen floor and is amazed at how clean the whole room and plates are, ALF says he's amazed and how versatile the Tidy Bowl is.
