You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog is the twentieth episode of ALF's second season. It originally aired on February 29, 1988.

Plot Summary[]

ALF, jealous of the attention a stray dog is getting, gives the pooch to a mean old woman who claims to be the owner.

Teaser[]

ALF is trimming hedges in the backyard, and Brian comes in with a lost dog who plays fetch with. ALF tosses the stick over the Ochmonek's fence, and breaks their window. Willie comes in to ask about the broken window and the dog. Trevor comes over with the stick and asks about the window. He then asks for $80 instead of the usual $20 because he's going to put in plexiglass instead to save Willie money on the long run. Brian then asks if they can keep the dog until the owner is found

Act One[]

In the kitchen, ALF is hiding under the table groping for a plate of raw steaks. Kate then puts her hand down making him know she caught him. She then notices one of them is missing and blames ALF until Lynn comes in with a beef bone that the dog ate. They all fawn over the dog, and ALF becomes jealous. The next morning they learn the dog, dubbed "Alfina" will do the wrong tricks. Brian then comes home from putting up some "Found" posters, and ALF then suggests they offer a reward for someone to collect him. The doorbell rings and a grouchy old lady (Ethel Buttonwood) comes to the door claiming to be the dog's owner. Based on what she says, and the dog's behavior, that she's lying about being the dog's owner. He sends her away, but she gives him her address and number on a piece of paper in case he changes his mind. Brian goes out to take the dog for a walk


That night ALF goes into Kate & Willie's bedroom with a newspaper in his mouth, making dog whining noises.ALF is still upset about the dog and is trying to act like one for more attention. He then leaves the room, and finds the dog in his bed. He then asks the dog how he'd feel about relocating

Act Two[]

That morning Kate & Willie are in the kitchen making breakfast. ALF is happy about the meal and they tell him they feel sorry about neglecting him due to Alfina. When they don't see her around, ALF then abruptly changing the subject revealing he did something. The doorbell rings and the dog's real owner, Hannah, has come to claim her, and that the dog's real name is Francesca. When Willie then says she's missing again,Hahnnah breaks down in tears. Willie then goes into the kitchen to scold ALF for what he did, and Kate comes in too and they demand ALF reveal what he did. He then says he called the old lady who falsely claimed to be the owner.


At Mrs. Buttonwood's apartment Willie comes over to take the dog back letting her know the real owner came over. Mrs. Buttonwood demands $500 in cash to have the dog back. Her ex-boyfriend, Vince, then starts banging on the door demanding to know if she has a man there. She then opens a window and has Willie climb out of it so he can escape. Back at the Tanner's Brian is mad at ALF for what he did, and Willie comes home to explain what happned. Brian then yells at ALF again and storms out of the room. ALF then decides to fix the situation


At Mrs. Buttonwood's apartment, she's about to have dinner and the phone rings. When she leaves the room to answer it, ALF sneaks in to rescue Francesca. When Vince comes to the door, ALF hides. Vince then comes over to says he's no longer jealous. Ethel then calls him "stud-muffin" which she only says when she wants to make love, she then sends him to go get the mood music, which happens to be "Bolero" ALF then hears them giggling, and decides despite his curiosity to watch them, that some things are best left to the imagination

Epilogue[]

At the Tanners, Hannah shows the Tanners' some of the tricks Francesca can do. She needs to go back home but invites Brian over. Kate thinks they look cute together. Willie thanks ALF for rescuing her.
